Deep sea diving is an art that allows us to explore the magnanimous depths of oceans of this earth. Diving usually takes place in oceans but that is not the only place it can occur. Rivers, ponds and lakes also invite divers to take pleasure in wandering their depths.
Diving has been practiced since ancient times as Greeks used it for militaristic and economic purposes but without any appropriate bit of equipment. History tells us that divers were used in the Trojan wars and there were laws for divers that searched for sunken treasure. This was completed with the assistance of a rope and a stone weight.
Deep sea diving or diving underwater is a process of submerging in the water and staying beneath its surface for exploration, study, excavation or entertainment.
SCUBA (self-contained underwater breathing apparatus) is the scientific wonder as it enables us to direct ourselves under water and discover the depth of the oceans with a certain amount of ease without being worried about holding our breath. Picture a stone and a rope is all you have when taking underwater pictures of sharks.
All one needs is basic equipment - which consists of a mask, a respirator, a pair of flippers, a diving suit and there you go the mysteries and secrets of this wet, fish filled marvel just waiting to be discovered by you. Well it isn't as easy as it sounds. It takes a certain amount of training, exercise and your physical fitness. The deeper you go the harder it is to manoeuvre, but common diving has been in practice for years and with the help of an expert guide you can easily like and fascinate yourself with the wonders of the depths of this new world.
It has been stated that the number of active divers has increased to go past six million. These include cave, wreck, commercial and military diving. Recreational and sport diving are practiced at depths of less than 130 ft (39 m) and are the most general forms of diving as diving past this depth more training is needed as stated earlier.
As all adventures diving has its cons. The temperatures in the depths and the water pressure are dangerous for health if not trained for and cannot be taken lightly. Breathing under pressure and threat from marine animals is always possible. Human motion under water is significantly low thus making it difficult to move and uses more muscle strength.
There are many species and places still foreign to us and they are found in the waters of the earth. Myths like the Mermaids and Atlantis are still possible to be right due to the massive undiscovered volumes of the sea.
Start diving and your fables would get the benefit of the doubt if they talk about you running into Lochness Monster.

How long can you stay underwater while free diving ?
How long can you stay underwater with using your mask snorkel and fins without coming to the surface for air ? I can hold my breath up to 5 minutes.
Only a minute or so but your five minutes you may want to re time. The current record for doing what you're doing using mask and fins by a woman is actually measured in distance, not time. It's called dynamic apnea with fins. Natalia Molchanova swam 214M on 2008-10-05. Think about that. That's kicking along to swim two laps of an olympic pool. Think how long that takes on the surface.
Your 5 minutes are probably what is known as static apnea. Different ball game. You're sitting still for it or nearly so. The current women's record is 8 minutes flat, also held by Natalia Molchanova.
There's a lot of different ways to measure someone's stay underwater on a lungful of air. The general term for the sport is free diving.

Still, 5 minutes is pretty good for someone not trained in it, even if it is a static apnea time.
