Should my Fujifilm wp-fxf100 underwater housing flash diffuser fill with water?
I have recently bought a Fujifilm wp-fxf100 underwater housing for my camera to use on holiday next week. I have greased the orings and the actual camera housing is watertight, however my flash diffuser is letting water in when I test it in the sink. Should it be doing this?
The flash diffuser is not actually letting the water into the housing, and getting the camera wet, its just the flash section, which is seperate...
The purpose of a flash diffuser is merely to obstruct the camera's onboard flash and help reduce backscatter from it. They're often simply a somewhat or completely opaque piece of plastic sheet depending if you're using an external strobe set up. I had a look at this one's design. Unique. The presence of water inside the diffuser won't make a difference to your shots. Looks to me that the design is just a way to beef up the strength of the diffuser and not meant to be waterproof on the interior. There would be an O ring kit inside the diffuser if this were the case and honestly, I don't see any need for there being one there unless the interior of the diffuser had open access to the interior of the camera case and integral to it, which would be one stupid thing to do for whoever designed it. It would just add one more possible spot for a camera flood which is your primary concern. You say the camera body isn't flooding so I have to assume it and the diffuser MUST be separate.
That being the case..let the diffuser flood. It means nothing. It won't alter your shots and there's nothing inside that diffuser but space.
